It is well known that Palestinian embroidery and textile traditions are a centuries-old practice. The Bethlehem ensemble — thobe al-malak, shatweh headdress and taqsiri jacket — have traceable origins that can be identified as far back as the 1st and 2nd Century AD. How so? Join this special lecture, requested by students in the Tatreez & Tea community, to learn about the various aspects of traditional Bethlehem dress, the remarkable consistency of this style throughout the centuries, as well as Wafa’s latest research into the taqsiri jacket at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Please note that you are welcome to register for the lecture and watch the recording at a later time, because it will be recorded and sent to all registrants within 24 hours of the live event. However, the recording will be available until October 30, 2022.
